Josef Sauerschell Josef Sauerschell always wanted to be a cook and he started early to work with his mother in the kitchen to cook for his family. He felt that it was his life and his passion to cook and create fantastic food. He started his apprenticeship in the Hotel Klosterbraeu in Ebrach in the year 1970. Soon after he traveled around the world and worked as a chef at high class restaurants and 5 star hotels in Munich, Lausanne, London, Ajaccio, Hamburg and Oxford for instance. 1983 achieved the title of chef de cuisine in Germany. Only two years later he went to Mallorca to open the Restaurant El Olivo at Hotel la Residencia. There he got to know his wife Leonor Payeras. After some tough years with hard work in 1991 he got his first Michelin star. 1999 he and his wife decided to open their own restaurant. In 2000 the doors of the Restaurant Es Raco des Teix in Deia finally opened and Josef Sauerschell's and Leonor Payeras' dream became true. Soon after, in 2001 he was awarded the best cook of the year from the magazine Al Punto. 2002 came the Michelin star on top and 2006 the great sun from the Spanish magazines. Whatever he does! It's from his heart and because of this he is one of the best gastronomic chefs of the island. |
