I fell in love with this hotel when I first embarked on my search to reserve a hotel in Mallorca. When our family got off the taxi at the doorstep, we were certainly enchanted by this 13th century castle. The hotel was absolutely perfect in every way, other than its distance from Palma. The setting was exceptionally beautiful, with the landscaped sub-tropical gardens, the amazing view of the Bay of Palma and the beautiful architecture. However, what really swept us off our feet was the warmth and hospitality of the Food & Beverage staff and the fantastic cuisine that we enjoyed at every meal (and we had almost every meal at the hotel) including the complementary desert pastries. The seafood buffet on Thursday with its array of desserts (that even tempted me despite my habitual abstinence from sweet temptations) was in a class of its own. However, it is fair to say that even the breakfast buffets were elaborate. In particular, we would like to thank the Executive Chef Juan Lopez, who made it a point to come out to meet us personally at the restaurant along with the chef who was responsible for the delicious ‘tapa’ appetizer we had that day. He also took an appreciative family member on a tour of the kitchen. Every single staff member of the restaurant was attentive and obliging. However, the supervisor Diego deserves special mention, with a special ‘gracias’ for the ‘invitation’ to breakfast one morning. Juan, the front desk assistant who checked us in remembered us by name every time he saw us and the poolside attendant really made us feel comfortable with his ‘this is your home’ when we asked where the pool towels could be dropped off after an evening swim. By the time we actually checked out with a heavy heart 4 sleeps later, our entire family was left wondering why this hotel only has a SPG category 5 rating. Perfect setting, perfect cuisine, amazingly friendly and professional staff – don’t know what the SPG rating criteria is, but Son Vida is most certainly getting a CATEGORY 7 rating on my travel scrapbook…Gracias, gracias, muchas gracias. No podemos agradecerte lo suficiente.
